A host of Web3 firms have teamed up with Austrian regional groups to roll out “Web3 tours” in Salzburg and elsewhere. Alex Fedosseev of 1World, which was part of the partnership, said tourists could go to museums and verify their attendance with NFTs, which could then be used for discounts at restaurants and entertainment venues. It’s not the first attempt to capture crypto-inspired tourism. Travelers looking to transact with digital assets can already visit Bitcoin Beach, Bitcoin Island, Bitcoin Valley, or Bitcoin Lake. But newer Web3 tourism projects are expanding beyond the digital payment sphere. George Harrap from The Next…
The apparent centralization in both proof-of-work and proof-of-stake protocols is “tragic because it’s antithetical to the cypherpunk ideals” that birthed the the bitcoin and blockchain movement, Tomer Afek, the CEO at the crypto platform Spacemesh, has argued. To back this assertion, Afek told Bitcoin.com News that only two Bitcoin mining pools control more than 50% of the network’s hashrate while the top five pools control more than 75%. ‘Centralization and Consolidation of Mining Resources’ For Afek, the concentration of the Bitcoin network’s mining power among a few players should worry decentralization proponents because it means such “centralized actors” are accountable…

Hundreds of new cryptocurrencies join the market every year, but Bitcoin still stands above them all. Its success can be attributed to many factors, like its mainstream recognition, pioneering status and, of course, its meticulously designed economic principles. Central to this design is Bitcoin mining — a process that allows miners to receive rewards for validating transactions. However, unlike many assets, Bitcoin has a limited supply. As a result, periodically, the mining reward is halved in an event known as “halving.” I’ve seen firsthand how these halvings can create waves in the crypto industry, influencing both Bitcoin’s price and the…
Quantum mechanics tells us that what looks like a highly predictable and orderly universe is built on a world of unpredictability and mere probability. While the quantum world looks bizarre, it can be understood and even harnessed for technology like semiconductors, LEDs, and quantum cryptography. Something similar can be said about randomness in the metaverse. What looks like a system built on random values produced by random number generators (RNGs) is, in fact, based on programs with a method behind them that can be understood — for good or ill. The pivotal role of random numbers Random numbers are of…
The Singapore High Court has allowed financial investigation firm Intelligent Sanctuary (iSanctuary) to attach nonfungible tokens (NFTs) containing a legal document to cold wallets associated with a hack, according to United Kingdom-based iSanctuary and local press accounts. A court-issued worldwide freeze order was tokenized as soulbound NFTs and attached to the wallets in question. The NFTs will not prevent transactions with the wallets but will serve as a warning to counterparties and exchanges that the wallets were involved in a hack. In addition, iSanctuary claimed it has devised a means of tracking funds leaving the wallets, thanks to the NFTs.…
