Upland recently released a document outlining their development plans for Q3 of 2023. And it’s a pretty packed roadmap! And since we’re already a third of the way into Q3, let’s take a look at their plans, and which features have already been implemented!
Upland is rapidly expanding. And I’m not just talking about adding new cities to their game map. They have already added plot customization, store ownership, player created content, social hubs, and more! In fact, Upland seems to be quietly expanding their scope into a metaverse style experience. Their plans for Q3 include more growth, more customization, and more opportunities for player ownership!
What’s New in Upland for Q3?
For starters, Upland wants to expand the concept of Metaventures. Initially just storefronts allowing owners to create and monetize NFTs, Upland recently added the ability for Metaverse owners to create custom racetracks. And when race wagers are in place (another planned Q3 feature), racetrack creators can earn income when their track is used in a race.
And this is just a first step towards expanding Metaventures and user created content. In fact, player generated content is a big focus of the roadmap. Upland wants to streamline their approval process, making it easier for creators to get their content into the game.
They also plan to expand their Cafes, 3D, avatar-based social hubs. They are looking into ways to give Cafe owners option for monetizing these social hubs. In the meantime, expect to see more game meetups and activities centered around the Cafes which include proximity text and voice chat! In fact, the Upland team held a recent AMA about the roadmap at one of the in-game Cafes!
Other Q3 plans include expanding missions, particularly for helping new players understand all of the game options and mechanics, more car utility, including the ability to make more choices when racing and the ability to use cars for transport around and between cities, and more Legits, such as collectibles from the FIFA Women’s World Cup (already available) and the NFLPA.
Upland is also planning to expand their cross-chain functionality, opening up transfers for more of their NFT collections to the Ethereum network.
Another Q3 roadmap item that has already been implemented is a passive income for Terminal owners. Terminal owners now receive 20% of the fees spent on tickets in the city, and can also apply to run a Metaventure from their Terminal plot.
You can read the official blog post, and also watch an AMA recording from Upland for more details on the Q3 roadmap.
What is Upland?
Upland is a free to play, property trading and city-building game where players can explore cities, collect properties and meet other players. The play-to-earn game is available on Android, iOS, and the Web.
Each player in Upland is given a status determined by his/her net worth based on property and token holdings. The different ranks are Visitor, Uplander, Director, Executive, Pro, and Chief Executive. When a user joins the game for the first time, he is assigned Visitor status. And though players can buy properties right from the start, they can’t sell them until they reach Uplander status.
The official currency in Upland is UPX. However, this is an in-game currency only and cannot be traded between players.
Players earn passive UPX just by owning properties. They also receive income anytime another player “sends” themselves to an owned property. In addition, players can complete Collections in-game by owning specific properties (five properties in the same city, for example). These provide a one-time UPX payout and then a passive boost to UPX earning as long as you maintain that Collection. Players can also buy UPX tokens directly from Upland.
Upland has expanded greatly over time, now encompassing more than a dozen cities. They have also introduced plot customization. Players can construct buildings and decorate their properties in a number of different ways. Players can also own shops, selling their own, customized Block Explorers!
