NBA Top Shot, the leading sports NFT platform, is set to launch a series of applications that will allow fans to engage with their services more efficiently through their mobile devices. This is according to an announcement made on February 16. According to Jennifer Van Dijk, Senior VP of Sports Partnerships at Dapper Labs, it’s a necessary step because the platform receives up to 75% of its traffic via mobile web; however, buying and handling NFTs on a mobile browser is difficult.
Dapper Labs is the creator of Flow blockchain and the parent platform of NBA Top Shot, NFL All Day, and UFC Strike. By opting to introduce mobile apps for both Android and iOS users, the company is taking the first step in transforming to be a mobile first Web3 company.
Speaking to the press, Van Dijk notes,
“The NBA Top Shot app will really be the start of our move to be a mobile-first company.” Thus, this move will let Dapper “lead the way in what mobile looks like in Web3, and continue our path of wanting to bring everybody to Web3.”

What Can Users Expect From The NBA Top Shot App?
At first, the app will have limited features. Users will be able to view their NBA Top Shot NFT collections, get notifications of drops, purchase a starter pack of NFT moments, and see platform activity. However, with time, more features will be added.
Even though this is welcome news for Web3 proponents, there are a few questions. Many wonder how Dapper Labs plans to circumvent Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store expected cut on NFT sales. For instance, Apple demands a 30% cut, which makes primary sales to mobile users more expensive.
Van Dijk notes that Dapper is aware of this predicament and is working closely with Apple and Google to try and find an amicable solution.
“When we present a price, that will include everything that would be taken out or managed by us on the back end, and the consumer will have that price.” She goes on to add taht “we’re committed also to keeping prices reasonable for fans and making them accessible.”
