Web3 gaming hits the ground running this year, with new releases, new alphas, and even an uptick in the general cryptocurrency markets to help things along! Today we take a look at some of the top NFT collections and games this past week.
It’s certainly nice to see the markets in the green. It’s also nice to see even more news and releases from the web3 / play to earn / play and earn gaming developers! Skyweaver brings us a new card set as well as a new Skypass allowing players to earn rewards in a battle pass style system. Axies moves into season two of Origins, and MuTerra launches their first alpha!
And then in some surprising news, Pegaxy announces that they’re shutting down their 2D racing while they build out a 3D, active racing system. And Gala games goes all in on mobile, purchasing Ember entertainment, a game development studio with fifteen mobile games in their portfolio! Gala Games plans to onboard all of these games, and in turn, their users, to web3 via the GALA token, which will also take over as the reward token for Town Star.

Top play-to-earn games by active users
Alien Worlds reclaims their top spot in the charts this week, though it is a close race between them and Splinterlands. It’s a large gap after that, as Benji Bananas took a huge hit in active players with their most recent play and earn event coming to an end.
Axie released Season 2 of Origins this week, and sees a new surge in their playerbase. And Planet IX continues to surprise with another week of player gains.
There’s a lot of general shuffling around in the gaming chart this week, but no new entries.

Huge drops in NFT trading volume among most of the top projects this week. Perhaps with the recent upturn in the cryptocurrency markets people are spending their money on tokens and coins rather than NFTs. But that didn’t stop the Art Blocks and Mutant Hound collections from spiking!
Mutant Hound Collars are the original NFTs that allow the holders to exchange them for a Mutant Hound. This feature was just opened a few days ago which is why you see both collections on the charts. Mutant Hounds are working to build their hounds into the Otherside, coordinating with a number of other NFT projects, and may even be in talks about developing an animated series around their IP. They definitely have a lot of buzz at the moment and may be a project to watch.
